Mannar Donkey Management & Welfare

Bridging Lanka seeks to bring the large feral and abandoned donkey population found in urban and rural areas back to health and prominence.

About

Bridging Lanka seeks to bring the large feral and abandoned donkey population found in urban and rural areas back to health and prominence. The fortunes of the Mannar donkey have declined and now faces real issues of survival. A group of animal lovers from around the world has commenced an active campaign to assist.

A team from Donkey Sanctuary India visited Mannar to undertake an initial assessment of the condition of the donkeys and make recommendations for action. Meetings were held with government vets, women's and community groups and local businesses about their attitudes to presentations were made to sell the worth of these extraordinary animals.
