Business Manager / Social Enterprises

Duration: 1 month minimum 

Background: Bridging Lanka has set up several businesses including a tech company, tailoring, gyms, a grinding mill, a donkey clinic and a café. They were supported until they could stand on their own feet. The goal was to help establish a successful business that provides an income and livelihood to local residents thereby benefitting the local economy and communities. The challenge for us is to ensure that these micro enterprises balance profit-making with social, moral and ethical principles.  

Role: We are looking for volunteers with experience in running small businesses, social enterprises or start-ups. 

• Undertake research to determine business feasibility
• Co-develop simple business plans with the local entrepreneur
• Bring creative and innovative yet pragmatic approaches to the business concept
• Develop simple finance and reporting systems
• Provide advice and support to entrepreneurs in the early stages of operation
